This stylized shell design was first used by Tony Duquette for his house in Paris c. 1950, and throughout his career. In the 18th century, “Rocaille” referred to a type of Rococo decoration using shells, corals and river stone. Tony Duquette called his version “Natural Baroque.” Our cast bronze sconce is based on an original example found in Duquette’s warehouse.
