Resting on the walnut base of this brass shaded lamp is a hand molded and translucent amber resin sculpture of an antique bronze deer acquired by Tony Duquette for his personal collection while on a trip to Kyoto in the 1960's. Duquette believed that the original pair of sculpted bronze deer were used as stair risers to hold wooden treads leading up to an altar in a Japanese temple. Each with slight, unique variations inherent in the material and due to the hand-made nature of the resin.
