A broad convex backplate is bordered with a rope band, a detail that's continued in the cuffs that capture the arms, and in the waxpans and cup edges as well. The Curtiss-Wright (yes, those Wrights) Company designed dozens of beautiful aircraft, like the Schneider Cup winning R3C and the twin-prop H4 "America" who's cockpit and tail profiles are echoed here.
